Ian McKellen to play Sherlock Holmes

Ian McKellen Gandalf the Grey White and Magneto is now Sherlock Holmes in Bill Condon's adaptation of "A Slight Trick of the Mind" by Mitch Cullin

It has been announced today that Ian McKellen (Lord of the Rings Trilogy, X-Men movies) will be playing Sherlock Holmes in Bill Condon's adaptation of "A Slight Trick of the Mind" by Mitch Cullin.

McKellen is an actor with an amazing ability to disappear into his roles, whether heroic or villainous in nature. I enjoyed his turn as the Master of Magnetism in the X-Men movies and that is one of the main reasons, I am looking forward to the upcoming Bryan Singer movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Equally great was his performance as Gandalf the Grey/White in the Lord of the Rings movies.

This is one of the best casting choices for the legendary detective and I am very excited to see McKellen's take on the iconic character.

  1. I heard about this yesterday and I have to say that I am very excited about the movie! A more mystery oriented Holmes feature film is over due, especially since McKellen is going to play the great detective. My only worry is that might be a cash grab but with McKellen behind the project, I believe the movie will turn out great.

    1. Thanks James.

I agree with you - with McKellen's presence, the movie should have some semblance of quality.

  6. I'm excited to see him as Sherlock Holmes! ^_^ It makes my little geeky heart happy! (Plus, I'm sure he'll be 10001X better than Miller. Because he's Sir Ian McKellen... ;) )

I'm interested to see who they'll get to be his Watson. For some reason, I really want it to be Patrick Stewart... I need to expand my actor reference pools...

    1. Thanks Loveable Freak.

Only 10001x better than Miller? Are you not guilty of underestimating McKellen's acting talents ;)

Patrick Stewart is an interesting choice as Watson. It will be hilarious to see Prof X playing sidekick to Magneto.

      B2B.
